"Undermining my electoral viability since 2001."

Brick

Thanks to Frank for the recommendation of Brick, which takes an improbable melange of genres -- the high-school drama and film noir -- and hits it out of the part. It's just very well-done cinema. Recommended!

Leigh and I netflixed that a while back. Awesome movie. I had to watch it twice because the dialogue was so fast. Totally worth it. One of the better indie flix I've found since Primer.

i must say, that movie is delicious. reviewers called it shallow, but i think that was the point. perhaps movie reviewers for major newspapers are too old to remember how seriously they took themselves as teenagers. more likely they didn't notice because they still take themselves too seriously...

i loved this movie too, but had to watch it with the captions. too much damn 20s-era slang. and also, if high school life is that sleazy, what's the rest of the world around them like?
