"Undermining my electoral viability since 2001."

Back in the HC

I'm back in Westhaven, after driving through the guts of a cloud. It was a hung-over drive, thoughts wandering to and fro; a good meditation. The Smith River was positively three-dimensional in its rush, the ocean muddy with washed-down silt. iPod lost its batteries and I explored the radio, learning that "New Rock" is apparently mostly stuff from when I was a teenager.

So I'll be taking an easy week, some work but not too much, and maybe some trips to the gym. I think it's probably time to initiate the post-holiday physiological turn-around, and getting my body taut once more will be good for my mind too. "Looking good, Feeling good," as Ricky's reminds us all.

Last years New Years resolutions -- "Less Work, More Sex, Flossing" -- could be retreaded, though in truth I think the whole resolution thing is bogus. There's always stuff to work on. The dream you live begins today.

I'll be doing a little overhaul on the old website too -- I got myself a fancy phone, so will be noodling with all things mobile -- so it might go offline for a bit or the like. Exciting!

Hey Josh,
Be sure to warm up and stretch before your physiological turn-around. I didn't go to they gym yesterday, so I decided to instead do a bunch of ETW style stretching and warmups in front of Freddy. I think they're called shoulder stands, where you put your entire arm across your torso and lift the rest of your body off the ground at a 45 degree angle. I can still do them and just about every other goofy ass thing we learned. The downside is that I woke up this morning feeling like someone had hit me arcoss my shoulders and back with a baseball bat.

Wendel Beavers Overdrive!

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've gotten fairly adept at figuring out where the pain point is at and staying on the right side of the line. Mostly. Sometimes it does end up that I can't really wash my hair afterwards...

Anyway, it's all about building up sustainable new habits, so the idea is to make the gym a regular stop-off after work (it's on the way home, so that helps). Probably will start with just doing some cardio stuff and a minor amount of weights, hopefully blooming into doing different things on different days, perhaps including some kind of organized class or the like.

Oooh. Fancy phone... What did you end up getting?

shortly after I wrote that comment things went from bad to worse and it became apparent that I had either a stomach bug or food poisening. Spent the whole day in bed and in the bathroom. It all passed though and I no longer feel like I was in a car crash.
