Great success!

A thousand thank-yous to all the folks who chipped in to help offest the cost of Sixto's amputation surgery. With an average contribution of $47, Mark has raised just over a thousand dollars in just under a week. Truly an amazing affirmation of human decency.

I know that Mark is blown away and ultra grateful to everyone. We'll be posting some new pictures and a big thankyou thing on the chipin page I think. He says Sixto is recovering very well.

Just helped Mark make a ChipIn page to help cover the cost of amputating Sixto's leg. After breaking a ligament about a month ago, his stiff-leg just wasn't going to work.

He's a real trooper and everyone expects a full recovery, but the cost of the surgery and medication will be in excess of $1,000, which is more than Mark earns in a month working as an academic mentor for AmeriCorps.

This is the first time I've been down to LA under my own power. Previous trips were at the outset of Vagabender and way back in 1994 when my dad took me and the step-fam down for the Rose Bowl.

It's an interesting place. Lots of bright colors, flash, sizzle, spectacle. It's structurally totally distinct, but reminds me of NYC more than any other city I've been in lately. Something about the international diversity, the smell of a liquor store/deli, the type and tone of affluence...

Tonight I hung out with Julia and my sister. We chatted it up, watched a little Wheel of Fortune, had two beers (one at a depressing bar, the other judgemental) and told some old stories. It was nice. I'm totally beat from the 4am wakeup for the 6am plane ride down here.

Since I've known him, my man Sam Tresler has worked the big T-day parade in NYC, a strange and brutal ritual. He's blogging about it now. Hurray!

Oh man. This should be AWESOME.

My man (and Firefox engineer) Tony Chang just answered one of my biggest problems with FF. When you hit backspace on a page, it's equivalent to hitting the back button. This is especially annoying on forms, as I'll often hit backspace one too many times and end up going off the page, which kills whatever other work I've done on the form. Raaar!

Luckily there's a fix for this. You type about:config into your browser bar, and search for "backspace." Then double-click on the browser.backspace_action line, and change the value to -1.

My comrade and colleague Farsheed has posted another of his amazing picsound creations. I just love these things. Basically, he makes some music, then does a little animation or image to go with it. It's bonafide internet art. Awesome.
